FIREGROUND COFFEE ROASTERS
HOW IT ALL STARTED
Fireground started life as Domestique Coffee, opening its doors in December 2024. Cheam finally had its own independent coffee spot, and it didn’t take long for locals to prove Jodie & Rob right – this place had been needed for a while.
Originally, the plan was to build the place into a cycling café. however, as things grew, something else started to take shape: A proper neighbourhood coffee spot. A place with a great vibe, familiar faces, and a real sense of community. Leaning too heavily into cycling just didn’t feel right anymore. From day one, Jodie and Rob wanted the café to feel authentic. if it wasn’t something they genuinely loved, it wouldn’t make the cut. And over time, they realised cycling wasn’t as big a part of their lives as it once was. The name, the look, even the concept… it all started to feel a bit forced.

THE FOCUS ON COFFEE
What never changed was the focus on coffee and community. Roasting their own beans had always been the goal. as that became more real, it was clear the Domestique name no longer quite fit (and, truth be told, people pronouncing it “Domestic” wasn’t exactly ideal either). It was time for something new. After plenty of back and forth, inspiration came from Rob’s day job as a firefighter.
There are loads of great fire service words and phrases, but one stood out straight away: Fireground.
Split the word in two and either half is relevant to both coffee and fire. Simple, meaningful, and finally something that felt like them. There was a short crossover where both names lived side by side, but it wasn’t long before Fireground took over. Same people, same place, same passion – just a name that fit.
Jodie and Rob were complete beginners when they started out, in both coffee and business. But what they lacked in experience, they’ve made up for with curiosity, DETERMINATION and a constant desire to get better. They’re still fiercely learning every day and they hope a bit of that ‘fire’ comes through in every roast and resulting cup.
